The basis of a democratic state is liberty

This is an absolut principle and there are several declinations, one being what Alexander Langer expressed with his thought and partially with his beahving in the world. Langer  is considered somehow the incarnation in itself of European ecology. Born in a disputed region where speaking Italian or German is still a distinctive trait, tried all his life to create moments of union between differences, focusing on the pleasure of being together more than on the difficulties of stress the differences. Since he was really young he did understand that living peace is much more interesting, even if sometimes more difficult, then living wa. He did realise that in the  Trentino Alto-Adige mountains in a not simple moment of the regional history; the Dolomites so beautiful to be declared Unesco heritage, that to be really loved need attention, stubborness. respect and something that that provincial mountaineer of Langer had clear in mind, the ability to be free. Not even eighteen years old he makes an experiment, put together some some guys of his same age and creates a group to constitute a newspaper written in two languages, to talk about environmental, political, social issues and to enjoy long walks on the mountains or going on the snow. While writing the group learns to know the wonderful dolomitic territory, loving the simpliest complexities and realising the sense of freedom and of the most precious of the democratic conquests, peace.

Halloween with olive trees

Halloween is the day of the witches, the US trick or treat is spreading all over Europe even if not with the same joyful and playful vigour of the American, wherever there are decorated pumpkins and the confictioners get ready for an 'imported Epiphany'. Italian province obviously is not an exeption to this trend, but, looking with a bit of attention you'll notice that on Italian hills there is an ancient activity repeating, a secular and fully Italian ritual, the harvesting of olives.

Green Province

Province, in Italian Provincia, is that magic place where identity roots of people and cultures are to be found. The roots of Italy and Europe, an example of peculiarities, a mishmash of linguistic, geographic, landscape, agricultural differences, with a millennial history. Places that inspired poets, scholars and politicians, provoking passions and people's feeling, nostalgias and impatiences.  

Green is the colour of fields, of en plein air pic-nic, of hills, of natural, regional and national parks, urban allotment and kitchen gardens that are flourishing in the cities and  in the countrysides.

Trees, woods, cliffs and kitchen gardens that can tell incredible stories to whoever has the time and the will to listen to them or to read some of them on this blog.
